James "Jimmy" Muniz

Former Local 70 President Jimmy Muniz has died. Local 70 its officers, officials, members and staff, JC7 and its affiliated Board, International Union and General President Hoffa share the grief - we've lost an important part of the family – the Teamster family.

Jimmy was smart, passionate, compassionate and dedicated to the cause of workers. To him, Local 70 wasn't an avocation, it wasn't a job, it was a lifestyle. During his time as a rank and filer, an officer, even a retiree, he lived, ate and slept Local 70.

In the early 60's, Jimmy was a Business Agent working out of the San Leandro Hall. He was elected President of Local 70 in 1969 and for the next 16 years set the standard by which past and future Presidents are measured. He was ready-made for the job.

“He knew the Local and its membership like no one else. We will miss him. It was a privilege to work with him and an honor to know him;” said Secretary-Treasurer Chuck Mack.
