Keith Barros says “ NO” to Wal-Mart

Local 70 member, Keith Barros, livened up the Alameda County Planning Commission meeting held in May when he spoke in favor of a County Ordinance that places limitations on building large retail stores – ala Wal-Mart.

He accused the Betonville, Arkansas behemoth of stifling competition and being a low wage/benefit employer - the kind of business that's not needed in San Lorenzo . He urged the Planning Commission to do everything it can to delay, defer and defeat Wal-Mart coming to town. He also accused the company of betraying the very communities in which they locate with broken promise after broken promise.

In closing he blasted the attorneys representing Wal-Mart and likened their role in advocating at the Planning Commission to that of defense attorneys attempting to make a “sodomy charge look like tail-gating.”

The ordinance will now go to the full Board of Supervisors where it's expected to be adopted. If so, it will limit Wal-Mart super centers on county property.
