Political Action Reportby Lou Marchetti |

December 30 , 2008
On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama completed a historic campaign for the Presidency of the United States . In the months leading up to that victory, Local 70 also made history by turning out rank and file members to phone banks and precinct walks in record numbers.
The Political Action Program driven by Shop Stewards and Worksite Coordinators fueled the interest in this historic election and helped push labor friendly candidates to victory. Local 70 members sacrificed their time and gas to help Congressman Jerry McNerney get re-elected in his hotly contested race in the Valley (District 11). While out there they also rang doorbells and hung signs for Joan Buchanan, gaining a labor backed seat in the California State Assembly.
The next few years are going to be critical for organized labor. Fixing the damage the Bush Administration has done to our economy, the NLRB and workers rights will be a tremendous challenge. But as this election has proven, with rank and file participation, we can make history.
Below is a list of Local 70 volunteers we would like to thank. If we left anybody out please contact Lou Marchetti so that we can correct any errors.
